In this article one is surprised to observe how the mismatch in service between Stringer Lawrence and Benjamin Robins performed for the East India Company in Mid 18th Century South-East India. The author divides his article into four sections viz, (i) Stringer Lawrence, Pre-Robins, (ii) Benjamin Robins questions, (iii) Lawrence, Post Robins, (iv) Reflections. Along with these four sections there is an appendix under the title ``Contemporary Military and Naval Services; references a propos 1750''. The article is well written and it helps one to appreciate the cultural and social parameters of scientific work in the early 18th century.
