The author investigated during many years adhesive contact problems, and used successfully in this field fracture mechanics. The book is a result of his experience and consists of the following chapters: 1. Elements of surface physics; 2. Elements of elasticity; 3. Rupture and adherence of elastic solids; 4. Frictionless elastic contact; 5. Study of some geometries. Chapter 1 is devoted to physical foundations of surface mechanics. Chapters 2-4 provide known in elasticity solutions, which are utilized in crack theory and contact mechanics. Chapter 5 is an interesting engineering contribution. The book is nicely elaborated and can be useful to graduate studies in elasticity and fracture mechanics.
