The closed-form solution of axially symmetric problem of classical elastostatics for a homogeneous isotropic hollow circular cylinder (or disk) subject to uniform pressure on the inner and outer surfaces (Lamé solution) is extended to include the case when the Poisson's ratio is constant \((0\leq\nu<1/2)\) and the Young's modulus takes the form: \(E(r)=E_0 (r/ a)^n\), \(r\in[a,b]\), where \(E_0\) and \(n\) are given parameters. A qualitative and numerical analysis of the extended solution is given. In particular, it is shown that for a cylinder subject to uniform pressure at the inner surface \(r=a\) only, a maximum hoop stress is attained at an internal cylindrical surface \(r_0 \in(a,b)\) if the parameters \(a,b,n\), and \(\nu\) are suitably restricted, contrary to the case of a homogeneous isotropic cylinder in which the hoop stress attains a maximum on the inner surface \(r=a\).
