Bobynin unterscheidet drei Entwicklungsstufen der Bruchrechnung. Zuerst kannte man die Brüche nur als Grössen, deren Mass niedrigerer Ordnung als das der gewöhnlichen Grössen war, also concrete Brüche; später erhielt man hieraus durch Abstraction Stammbrüche, und zuletzt erfand man Brüche, deren Zähler grösser als die Einheit war.
