A method is developed, in this paper, to find axisymmetric magnetohydrodynamic equilibria in Hamada coordinates. The problem is reduced to the solution of ordinary differential equations for the poloidal Fourier harmonics for the spatial coordinate of flux surfaces as functions of Hamada flux coordinate. The metric elements are then obtained for use in the stability or transport codes. Equilibria with prescribed outer boundary shape can thus be obtained, given a suitable pair of plasma profiles, like pressure and safety factor as functions of poloidal flux. The procedure outlined is faster than other known iterative procedures for given number of harmonics used and accuracy required.
