The authors attempt to fill several gaps in the current knowledge of Mars topography. First, they study and map the key bulk statistics of Mars topography such as standard deviation, skewness, and kurtosis coefficients of surface elevations. Second, the authors systematically study and map appropriate parameters of power spectra of surface elevations, and suggest some explanations for differences in their scaling behaviour in various geographical areas. Finally, the authors discuss potential mechanisms explaining spectral scaling and nonzero high-order moments of surface elevations.
