A ratio-dependent predator-prey system is considered under several assumptions: the consumption of prey is translated instantaneously into adult predators whereas the metabolic energy that a predator obtains from its food goes into physiological maintenance; newborns take \(\tau\) time-units to become mature; juveniles have an independent diet; the resources are renewable and the harvesting term is based on the catch-per-unit effort hypothesis. The corresponding system reads \[ \begin{aligned} \frac{dx}{dt}&= ax(1-k^{-1}x)-(my+x)^{-1}cxy,\\ \frac{dy}{dt}&= b_{0}y(t-\tau)-(d_{0}-(my+x)^{-1}fx)y-qEy, \end{aligned} \] where all the constants are positive. Local and global asymptotic stability of a positive equilibrium is discussed (with a focus on the influence of the time-lag and the harvesting effort). Also a Hopf bifurcation is exhibited. This type of model is new and the results clarify certain complicated issues of mathematical biology.
