The authors introduce a new technique to compute the eigenvalues of regular self-adjoint Sturm-Liouville problems with separate-type boundary conditions. In the new approach, the authors apply a non-standard truncation of the Fer expansion, which they call Fer streamers. This technique tackles the problem of computing middle and large eigenvalues with an exponentially convergent rate. The authors provide the paper with numerical worked examples, of Airy- and Mathieu-type problems with Dirichlet boundary conditions. The results show the efficiency of the technique, via a comparison against Matslise's package. The integrals appearing in the Fer streamers are calculated via a discretization scheme, which the authors introduce in a separate publication. However, with this respect, and as authors explain, the search for efficient techniques for computing these integrals requires further investigations. The root-finding stage is excuted through chebfun's package.
