We summarize our work concerning a dynamical adaptive finite volume method for the computation of inviscid compressible flow in the plane and describe the refinement indicator used in unsteady and steady flows. The method described belongs to the class of box schemes and works on general triangulations. The adaptive techniques used are point insertion/removing algorithms, and some effort was undertaken to develop residual based refinement indicators.
