A space $X$ is \textit{crowded} if $X$ contains no isolated points. A crowded Hausdorff space $X$ is \textit{irresolvable} if $X$ does not contain two disjoint dense subsets, is \textit{submaximal} if every dense set is open, and is \textit{disjointly tight} if for every $p\in X$ which is an accumulation point of a set $A$, there are disjoint subsets $A_0, A_1$ of $A$, such that $x\in A_0\cap A_1$. Using forcing theory and maximal independent families in the set theory setting of $ZFC+\mathfrak{c}=\omega_2$, a countable submaximal subspace of the product space $2^{\omega_1}$ is constructed. This example in combination with another known example is used to construct a space of weight $<\mathfrak{c}$ that answers a 2020 question by Bella and Hrušak [\textit{A. Bella} and \textit{M. Hrusak}, Appl. Gen. Topol. 21, No. 2, 326--329 (2020; Zbl 1450.54015)].
