Let \(G\), \(G'\) be any two finite groups and \(\Omega(G)\), \(\Omega(G')\) denote their Burnside rings. The authors study the following question. If \(\Omega(G)\) and \(\Omega(G')\) are isomorphic as rings, does this mean that \(G\) is isomorphic to \(G'\) as groups? It is already known that the answer is negative in general [\textit{J. Thevenaz}, Commun. Algebra 16, 1945-1947 (1988; Zbl 0652.20011)]. In the reverse direction, the authors obtain the first basic result by proving that if \(G\), \(G'\) are Abelian and have the property that for each prime \(p\), the \(p\)-primary torsion of each one of them is the direct sum of at most two cyclic groups, then the answer to the above question is affirmative. Moreover, the answer is shown to be affirmative for all finite Abelian groups subject to the condition that the ring isomorphism from \(\Omega(G)\) to \(\Omega(G')\) maps the positive part of \(\Omega(G)\) into the positive part of \(\Omega(G')\). Very recently, Cardenas and Vallejo (preprint) have shown that the answer to the above question is affirmative for all finite Abelian groups as well as for all Hamiltonian groups.
