This paper establishes an extension of Ekeland's variational principle and Caristi's fixed point theorem from metric spaces to probabilistic metric spaces. There are some misprints in the paper; most are obvious, but one in the proof of Theorem 3 could lead to confusion. The relation defined and used in the proof is both symmetric and antisymmetric. The paper notes the symmetry when what is really meant to be noted is the antisymmetry.
