The first two terms are derived of an asymptotic approximation for \(x- \)zeros of the ordinary Bessel function \(J_ \nu(x)\). The analysis is based on the zeros of a general cylinder function, of which \(J_ \nu(x)\) is a special case. Numerical examples are given to show the accuracy of the approximations.
