In this paper we begin a study of groups definable over an \(o\)-minimal structure \(M\). The stable analogue of this endeavour would be groups definable over strongly minimal structures. In the same way as Cherlin's conjecture says (roughly) that groups of finite Morley rank resemble algebraic groups (over algebraically closed fields), we want to show that groups definable over \(o\)-minimal structures resemble real algebraic groups. We classify the one-dimensional definably connected Hausdorff manifolds over \(M\). Essentially such objects will resemble the circle or the real line. The \(o\)-minimality techniques are used to deduce the group structure from the global manifold structure.
