Wide categories are subcategories closed under sums, summands, kernels, cokernels and extensions. A \(d\)-abelian category is a generalization of an abelian category where kernels and cokernels are replaced by \(d\)-analogues, see [\textit{G. Jasso}, Math. Z. 283, No. 3--4, 703--759 (2016; Zbl 1356.18005)] for the introduction of these notions. The authors and \textit{L. Vaso} previously extended the notion of wide subcategories in the situation of \(d\)-abelian categories [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 373, No. 4, 2281--2309 (2020; Zbl 1490.16024)]. The present paper considers the number \(w_{n,d}\) of wide subcategories of \(\mathscr{M}_{n,d}\), the smallest additive subcategory containing the unique basic \(d\)-cluster tilting module of the higher Auslander algebra \(A_n^{d-1}\) of type \(A\), as introduced in [\textit{O. Iyama}, Adv. Math. 226, No. 1, 1--61 (2011; Zbl 1233.16014)]. When \(d=1\), so in the context of representation-finite and hereditary algebras, \(w_{n,1}\) is the \(n+1\) Catalan number. The main result of the paper gives a bijection between combinatorially-defined admissible subsets of \(\{1,2,\dots, n+d\}\) respecting a non-interlacing property (presented in Definition 2.12) and the wide subcategories of \(\mathscr{M}_{n,d}\). Therefore, the numbers of wide subcategories can be computed combinatorially. This result also enables the classification of the wide subcategories of the \((d+2)\)-angulated categories associated to a higher Auslander algebra \(A_n^{d}\) via the recent work [\textit{F. Fedele}, J. Pure Appl. Algebra 223, No. 8, 3554--3580 (2019; Zbl 1411.16017)].
