The inverse Galois theory asks whether a given finite group \(G\) occurs as a Galois group over a given field \(k\). Since the Galois group of an irreducible polynomial of degree \(d\) is a transitive permutation group of degree \(d\), one may ask: Given \(d\in{\mathbb{N}}\) and a transitive subgroup \(G\) of the symmetric group \({\mathcal{S}}_d\). Does \(G\) occur as a Galois group of an irreducible polynomial of degree \(d\) over \({\mathbb{Q}}\)? Is it possible to give an explicit polynomial? In the paper under review we find several methods for the construction of polynomials with certain types of permutation groups as Galois groups. As an application the authors prove that all the 477 transitive groups of degree \(12\leq d\leq 15\) occur as Galois groups over \({\mathbb{Q}}\), moreover they give explicit polynomials. More precisely, they get that any transitive group of degree \(d\leq 15\) is realizable as a regular Galois extension over \({\mathbb{Q}}\). The main tools are the rigidity method, descent to subgroups and some algorithmic constructions of polynomials from given polynomials with known Galois group by passing to factor groups, direct and subdirect products, wreath products and certain split extensions.
