Cosmological consequences of the existence of a complex axidilaton field are considered. The axidilaton field is some complex combination of an axion field and a dilaton field which are the prediction of an effective string theory. The authors consider the various possibilities that the axion, the dilaton or other moduli fields of effective string models could provide a considerable fraction of the non-baryonic part of dark matter. They also consider the possibility that boson stars could be the solution for the massive compact halo objects.
