Several results about the generic existence of derivatives of Lipschitz maps in a separable Banach space are proved. For example, at each point (up to some \(\sigma\)-directionally porous set) the set of directions where the one-sided derivatives exist is a closed subspace, and the derivative mapping is linear on this subspace. Moreover, the set of points of non-Gâteaux differentiability is shown to belong to several classes of ``small'' sets. It is also proved that, conversely, for each \(\sigma\)-directionally porous set there is a Lipschitz scalar function which is non-Gâteaux differentiable on this set.
