The main motivation of this work is a paper by \textit{X. Fang} [Adv. Math. 186, No. 2, 411--437 (2004; Zbl 1070.47007)] concerning the Samuel multiplicity and the structure of some semi-Fredholm operators. First of all, the authors generalize the results of Fang to the class of essentially semi-regular operators, using elementary methods. Then they present a slightly modified version of Fang's \(4\times 4\) upper triangular model. As an application, they characterize semi-regular complex points in an essentially semi-regular domain.
