Two \(k\) algebras \(A\) and \(B\) are called \textit{stably equivalent of Morita type between \(A\) and \(B\)} if we can find an \(A\)-\(B\)-bimodule \(M\) and an \(B\)-\(A\)-bimodule \(N\) which are projective as one-side modules such that the \(A\)-\(A\) bimodule \(M\otimes_B N\) is projective and has a direct summand isomorphic to \(A\), and the \(B\)-\(B\) bimodule \(N\otimes_A M\) is projective and has a direct summand isomorphic to \(B\). In this case the tensor functors induced by \(N\) (\(N\otimes_A-\)), respectively induced by \(M\) (\(M\otimes_B-\)) induce a stable equivalence between the categories \(A-mod\) and \(B-mod\). In the present paper the authors present two methods to construct new stable equivalences of Morita type, under the assumption that we already know such an equivalence. In the main result, Theorem 1.1, it is proved that if \(M\) and \(N\) define a stable equivalence of Morita type between \(A\) and \(B\) then for every generator \(X\) for the category of \(A\)-modules and for any admissible set of positive integers \(\Phi\) there is a stable equivalence of Morita type between the \(\Phi\)-Auslander-Yoneda algebras induced by \(X\), respectively by \(N\otimes_A X\). In this theorem the induction functor is used, so the authors called it the induction procedure. They also proved that the restriction functors can be used to construct a new stable equivalence of Morita type (Theorem 1.2). These results are used to provide a characterization of stable equivalences of Morita type for representation finite algebras and for self-injective algebras (Corollary 1.3).
