Positive radial solutions are obtained for the semilinear equation in the exterior domain with a certain range of the parameter leading to the occurrence of an S-shaped bifurcation curve when the nonlinearity satisfies some additional assumptions. The method of sub-supersolution is applied. In addition, two models arisen in the study of ecosystems are also considered.
