These lecture notes are devoted to the study of surface singularities. The link of a singularity is the boundary of an arbitrary small neighbourhood of the singular point. In the case of an isolated hypersurface singularity the link is an oriented manifold. By resolving the singularity the link appears as the boundary of a small tubular neighbourhood of the exceptional locus, i.e., as a plumbed 3-manifold. On the other hand, the link is the boundary of the Milnor fibre. In the case of non-isolated hypersuface singularities the link is not smooth, the boundary of the Milnor fibre is smooth. This may be one reason that compared to the isolated case there are not so many results. Let \(f:(\mathbb{C}^3, 0)\to (\mathbb{C}, 0)\) define a surface singularity with one-dimensional singular locus. An algorithm is given to describe the boundary of the Milnor fibre as an oriented plumbed 3-manifold. This method also provides the characteristic polynomial of the algebraic monodromy. An open book decomposition of a smooth manifold consists of a codimension two submanifold embedded with trivial normal bundle, together with a smooth fibre bundle decomposition of its complement and some additional technical properties. The multiplicity system of the open book decomposistion of the boundary of the Milnor fibre cut out by the argument of \(g\) for some germ \(g:(\mathbb{C}^3, 0)\to(\mathbb{C}, 0)\) such that \((f,g)\) is an isolated complete intersection singularity is determined. The horizontal and vertical monodromies of the transversal type singularities associated with the singular locus of \(f\) and the isolated complete intersection singularity defined by \(f\) and \(g\) are described. Several examples are given to illustrate the theory.
