\(\eta\)-Einstein \(K\)-contact metrics are studied as Ricci solitons. The main result is the following: Theorem. If the metric \(g\) of a \(K\)-contact \(\eta\)-Einstein manifold \(M(\eta,\varphi,\xi,g)\) is a non-trivial (non-Einstein) Ricci soliton with the potential vector field \(V\), then the following conditions hold: I. The potential vector field \(V\) is Jacobi along the geodesics determined by the vector field \(\xi\). II. The potential vector field \(V\) is a non-strict infinitesimal contact transformation and is equal to \(-{1\over 2}\varphi Df+ f\xi\) for a smooth function on \(M\). III. The potential vector field \(V\) preserves the fundamental collineation \(\varphi\). IV. The Ricci soliton is expanding.
