To study the Nevanlinna-Pick interpolation problem consisting in finding functions with mininum \( \|\cdot\|_\infty\) norm such that the function and its derivatives agrees with the values of a given function at certain points, the author is lead to consider truncated Toeplitz operators. For a given inner function \(u\) and a Toeplitz operator \(T_\phi\) with symbol \(\phi\) acting on \(H^2\), the truncated Toeplitz operator, denoted \(A^u_\phi\), corresponds to the compression of \(T_\phi\) on \(K^2_u= H^2 \ominus uH^2\), that is to say \(P_uT_\phi|_{K_u^2}\) where \(P_u\) is the orthogonal projection on \(K^2_u\). The author analyzes self-adjoint truncated Toeplitz operators on finite-dimensional model spaces. Given a non-constant finite Blaschke product \(u\) and a non-scalar multiple of the identity self-adjoint truncated Toeplitz operator \(A\) defined on \(K^2_u\), the author considers the set \(S(A)\) of symbols \(\phi\) such that \(A=A^u_\phi\) and tries to identity the symbol with minimum \(\|\cdot\|_\infty\) norm and to show that it is unique. The special case of Blaschke products of order 2 is analyzed in the paper, studying first the case \(u(z)=z\frac{z-r}{1-rz}\) for \(0<r<1\) and then reducing to the previous one. Editorial remark: This article is an erroneous reprint of [ibid. 23, No. 3, 388--400 (2012; Zbl 1258.47045)].
