\textit{H. Clemens} [Ann. Math. Stud. 106, 289--304 (1984; Zbl 0575.14007)] conjectured that there are only finitely many smooth rational curves of a given degree \(d\) on a general smooth quintic hypersurface \(F\) of \(\mathbb{P}^4\). Katz considered and proved for \(d \leq 7\) a stronger version: ``The Hilbert scheme of smooth rational curves of degree \(d\) on \(F\) is nonempty, reduced, finite and all curves are embedded with normal sheaf \(\mathcal{O}(-1) \oplus \mathcal{O}(-1)\).'' The cases \(d=8,9,10\) were treated by other authors (Nijsse, Johnsen and Kleiman, Vallaeys, Cotterill -- cf. the quotations in the paper under review). In this paper one proves the Clemens conjecture, in the strong form of Katz, for \(d=11\), by a method which covers also the cases \(d \leq 10\). The proof is based on ``a raffination of a method of Castelnuovo about Hilbert function of a group of points'' (cf. \textit{P.~Ellia} and \textit{C.~Peskine} [Lect. Notes Math. 1417, 111--116 (1990; Zbl 0706.14033)] and \textit{J.~Harris} [Ann. Sc. Norm. Super. Pisa, Cl. Sci., IV. Ser. 8, 35--68 (1981; Zbl 0467.14005)]).
