The paper is aimed to give a proof of sharp \(L^\infty\) estimates (1) for the eigenfunctions of the Laplace operator to obtain with their help new estimates for Bochner Riesz means. Let \(M\) be a smooth compact of Riemannian manifold with boundary \(\partial M\), \(\partial M\neq\emptyset\), \(\dim M \geq 2\); \(e_j\)-eigenfunctions of the Laplace operator on \(M\), \(\|e_j \|_2 =1\); \(\int_Me_i (y)e_j (y)dy=0\), if \(i\neq j\); \(\Delta e_j+ \lambda^2_j e_j=0\). Let \(e_j(f) (x)=e_j(x) \int_Mf(y)e_j (y)dy\). There is a constant \(C\) so that: \[ \Bigl\|\sum_{|\lambda-\lambda_j |\leq 1}e_j(f) \Bigr \|_\infty \leq C_\lambda^{(n-1)/2} \|f\|_2, \tag{1} \] where \(\lambda \geq 1\). This result is stronger than that given in [\textit{D. Grieser}, Commun. Partial Differ. Equations 27, No. 7-8, 1283-1299 (2002; Zbl 1034.35085)]. Let \(\int^\delta_\lambda(f)= \sum_{\lambda_j \leq\lambda} (1-\lambda^2_j/ \lambda^2)e_j( f)\). If \(\delta> (n-1)/2\), then there is a uniform constant \(C\) so that: \[ \bigl\|S^\delta_\lambda (f)\bigr \|_p\leq C \|f\|_p, \tag{2} \] where \(1\leq p\leq \infty\), \(\lambda\geq 1\). The weaker results than (2), are shown in [\textit{L. Hörmander}, `On the Riesz means of spectral functions and eigenfunction expansions for elliptic differential operators', Some recent advances in the basic sciences, Yeshiva Univ., New York, 155-202 (1965-1966)].
