In this paper, by computer and qualitative methods, the authors show that the equation \(\Delta u-u+u^ 3=0\) has solutions which are self-localized in one, two or three variables and periodic in one variable. As it is known, the analysis of the solutions satisfying the self-localization conditions in some variables is of great physical interest in connection with the study of self-localized waveguide channels in nonlinear media, vortex flows of an incompressible perfect fluid, and particle-shaped states in field models of elementary particles. The authors also investigate the limiting behavior of such solutions, as the solution period goes to infinity. A special attention is paid to self-localized structures without trivial symmetry such as circular or spherical. So, for the case of two variables, the authors find self-localized patterns without circular symmetry. They also discuss the interpretation of these structures as objects of suitable dynamical systems.
