This paper is one of a sequence concerned with the problem of constructing and classifying the maximal abelian subalgebras (MASA's) of Lie algebras. The classification of MASA's for \({\mathfrak su}(p,q)\) is connected with the corresponding problem for maximal nilpotent subalgebras, there are used some results of Kravchuk. Many theorems for classification are proved, the problem is completely solved for \({\mathfrak su}(p,1)\), \({\mathfrak su}(p,2)\) and \({\mathfrak su}(p,q)\) with \(p+q\leq 6\), where the MASA's are listed. Applications with respect to physics and differential equations are discussed.
