Let \(M=\begin{pmatrix} A&C\\ B&D \end{pmatrix}\) be a \(2\times 2\) block matrix without any conditions on A,B,C, and D. The author obtains a formula that expresses the Moore-Penrose inverse \(M^+\) of M in terms of A,B,C,D, their Moore-Penrose inverses, and various matrices formed from the preceding matrices. The formula simplifies in various cases depending on whether either P or Q is 0 or of full column rank, where \(P=(I-AA^+)C\) and \(Q=B(I-A^+A)\).
