Some heat conduction problems can be formulated as `moving boundary' (Stefan) problems. The author presents a numerical procedure solving two- dimensional Stefan problems. The procedure uses boundary fitted coordinates and a finite difference marching method. It is based on a backward difference scheme. The consistency of the procedure and the order of accuracy are tested on problems with known solutions. The order of the method seems to be two. The paper reproduces the numerical results obtained by \textit{R. S. Gupta} and \textit{A. M. Kumar} [Comput. Methods Appl. Mech. Eng. 56, 127-138 (1986; Zbl 0576.35123)].
