    Assume that \(D\subset\subset\mathbb C^n\) is a strongly convex domain with smooth boundary. We say that a mapping \(F\in\mathcal O(D,\mathbb C^n)\) is the infinitesimal generator of a semigroup \([0,+\infty)\ni t\mapsto\Phi_t\in\mathcal O(D,D)\) if \(\partial\Phi_t/\partial t=F\circ\Phi_t\). The authors prove that, for \(F\in\mathcal O(D,\mathbb C^n)\), the following conditions are equivalent: {\parindent=6,5mm \begin{itemize}\item[(1)] \(F\) is the infinitesimal generator of a semigroup of holomorphic self-maps of \(D\); \item[(2)] \(d(k_D)|_{(z,w)}\cdot(F(z),F(w))\leq0\), \(z,w\in D\), \(z\neq w\), where \(k_D\) is the Kobayashi distance for \(D\); \item[(3)] \(d(G_D)|_{(z,w)}\cdot(F(z),F(w))\leq0\), \(z,w\in D\), \(z\neq w\), where \(G_D\) is the pluricomplex Green function for \(D\); \item[(4)] \(k_D(z-rF(z),w-rF(w))\geq k_D(z,w)\), \(z,w\in D\), \(r>0\), provided that \(z-rF(z)\), \(w-rF(w)\in~D\). \end{itemize}} Moreover, if \(z_0\in D\), \(p\in\partial D\) and there exists an \((n\times n)\)-matrix \(A\) such that, for every \(R>0\), we have \(\lim_{E_D(p,R)\ni z\to p}dF_z=A\), where \(E_D(p,R):=\{z\in D: \lim_{w\to p}(k_D(z,w)-k_D(z_0,w))<(1/2)\log R\}\), then \(F\) is the infinitesimal generator of a semigroup of holomorphic self-maps of \(D\) with a stationary points at \(p\) iff \(d(u_{D,p})_z\cdot F(z)\leq0\), \(z\in D\), where \(u_{D,p}\) is the Poisson kernel.
