The problem of extending physically relevant groups to larger groups that combine inner and outer symmetries in order to obtain accurate predictions of physical properties is a fundamental one, and emerged naturally after the first success of group theoretical models in particle physics. Pioneering work was done e.g. by \textit{W. McGlinn} [Phys. Rev. Lett. 12, 467--469 (1964; Zbl 0127.44801)] and \textit{L. O'Raifeartaigh} [Phys. Rev., II. Ser. 139, B 1052--B 1062 (1965; Zbl 0127.20903)] in the context of Lorentz invariance, establishing the first results the development of which led to the first no-go theorems [see e.g. \textit{S. Coleman} and \textit{J. Mandula}, Phys. Rev., II. Ser. 159, 1251--1256 (1967; Zbl 0168.23702)] and showed the convenience of considering non-Lie extensions of the underlying symmetry groups, like Lie superalgebras, enabling to consider simultaneously the two types of statistics [\textit{L. Corwin, Y. Ne'eman} and \textit{S. Sternberg}, Rev. Mod. Phys. 47, 573--603 (1975; Zbl 0557.17004)]. Modern developments, mainly in string theories, go beyond the binary structures and are no more subjected to these group theoretical constraints. In this work, a way to surmount these formal difficulties to describe relations between mass and spin of particles is found, by means of Leibniz algebras. This enables to establish mass relations. A detailed discussion of the connection between the phase space representations of the Poincaré group and the phase space representations of the corresponding Leibniz algebra is presented.
