Propagation of optical solitons in non-uniform fibres is described by the non-linear Schrödinger equation. The authors solve the equation analytically by the Hirota method and by symbolic computation in normal dispersion regimes of non-uniform optical fibres. The obtained solutions confirm the existence of bright solitons that can be controlled by using dispersion-decreasing fibres.
