The authors consider a class of high order nonlinear Schrödinger equation with a trapped term, supplied with initial and periodic boundary conditions. They write down a Hamiltonian formalism for it and reduce the original system to a finite-dimensional one by finite difference discretization of the spatial operator. The symplectic midpoint scheme is considered for the temporal discretization. An energy evolution formula in the temporal direction is obtained and some numerical experiments are carried out.
