\textit{R. C. Lyndon} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 5, 8-9 (1954; Zbl 0055.02705)] discovered a seven-element groupoid that was the first known non-finitely based finite algebra. The main result of the article under review is a complete description of the subvarieties of the variety \(\mathcal L\) generated by this groupoid: they form a chain of order 5 and, other than \(\mathcal L\) itself, are finitely based and finitely generated. The author notes that \(\mathcal L\) is actually generated by a six-element groupoid.
