The notion of resolution which can be viewed as special inverse limit in the category Top is originally introduced by the author in Fundam. Math. 114, 53-78 (1981; Zbl 0411.54019). Here the notion of resolution is successfully extended to the case of the category \(Top^ 2\) of all pairs of topological spaces and their continuous maps. The author's first main result gives a useful internal characterization of resolutions of pairs and the second one establishes the existence of ANR-resolutions for pairs.
