The author studies almost contact metric submersions, that is, almost contact Riemannian submersions between almost contact metric manifolds. For this, he uses the classification for the almost contact metric structures of \textit{J. A. Oubiña} [Tensor, New Ser. 41, 111--115 (1984; Zbl 0557.53017)], which in turn uses the Gray-Hervella's classification of almost Hermitian manifolds [\textit{A. Gray} and \textit{L. M. Hervella}, Ann. Mat. Pura Appl., IV. Ser. 123, 35--58 (1980; Zbl 0444.53032)]. He defines the concept of (immersed) invariant submanifold \(M\) of an almost contact metric manifold \(\tilde M\) and proves in several situations some relations among the coderivatives, the structural 1-forms, the fundamental 2-forms and the mean curvature vector field of \(M\). He also proves that the fibres \(F_{m'}\) of an almost contact metric submersion \(f: M\to M'\) are invariant submanifolds of \(M\). From this fact, he obtains many results about the type of structure induced by that of \(M\) (in Oubiña's classification) on \(F_{m'}\) or on \(M'\). In several cases, there is no condition, but in others one has an induced structure on \(M\) if and only if the fibres are minimal submanifolds. Moreover, by using results of \textit{J. Eells} and \textit{J. H. Sampson} [Am. J. Math. 86, 109--160 (1964; Zbl 0122.40102)] he proves that in some cases there is transfer of structure from \(M\) to \(M'\) if and only if \(f\) is harmonic. Finally, he gives seven examples of almost contact metric submersions.
