An exact and quite efficient test for testing the nesting effect's variance component is developed in an unbalanced random two-fold nested ANOVA model. The test requires an inequality between the total number of observations and the total number of levels of the nested factor. Moreover, its critical value does not depend on the values of the unknown nuisance parameters of the model.
