The separation criterion of axially symmetric incompressible laminar flow in close agreement on the separation point of the sphere with experimental data is presented by correlating to two-dimensional flow by the successive solution of a boundary layer equation. Applying the presented criterion and analysis, the location and laminar separation boundary layer characteristics of incompressible axisymmetric as well as two-dimensional flow can be accurately predicted using external inviscid velocity distribution only and not by referring to boundary layer flow.
