The authors prove first a general result about the global stability for a difference equation of the type \( x_{n+1} = f( x_n, x_{n-1})\), \( n = 0,1,\dots \) where \(f(x,y)\) is strictly decreasing in both positive variables. This result is applied to the case \( x_{n+1} = A /x^p_n + 1/x_{n-1}^{1/p} \), \( n=0,1,\)\dots, where \( x_{-1}, x_0, A \in (0, \infty)\) and \( p > 1 \) and it is shown that a sufficient condition for the global asymptotic stability of the positive equilibrium \( \overline x \) of this difference equation is that \(oA \leq 2 (1+ (4p^2 -3)^{1/2})^{2p-1} / (4p^2-4)^p\).
