The author estimates the \(L_ p\)-approximation rate \((1 \leq p \leq \infty)\) provided by the orthogonal projection operator of \(L_ 2 (\mathbb{R}^ d)\) onto a space generated by shifts of a function which has a polynomial decay rate at infinity and has stable shifts. A quasi- interpolation scheme and Wiener's lemma for a certain Banach algebra are used.
