Let \(\Omega\) be a smooth bounded domain in \(\mathbb R^n\) and consider \[ -\Delta u=g(x,u)- \varepsilon \quad\text{in }\Omega, \qquad u|_{\partial\Omega}=0. \tag{1} \] This paper is devoted to some new multiple solutions and sign-changing solution theorems for linear and superlinear elliptic boundary value problems with a reaction term nonzero at zero. Under suitable assumptions on \(g\) (without usual condition \(g_u'(x,u)> \frac{g(x,u)}{u}\), \(u\neq 0\)) the authors obtain up to five nontrivial solutions. Moreover, the sign-changing solutions change sign exactly one. To prove the results mentioned above the authors use ordinary differential equation theory of \(B\)-spaces and minimax theory, in particular, the local mountain pass lemma.
