Let \(S=k[x_1,\ldots,x_n]\) be a polynomial ring over a field \(k\) with \(char(k)=0\). If \(I\) is an homogeneous ideal in \(S\) which contains an ideal \(P\) generated by powers of variables and a piecewise lex ideal \(\tilde{L}\), then Caviglia and Sbarra proved that there is a lexsegment ideal \(L\) such that \(P+\tilde{L}+L\) and \(I\) have the same Hilbert function and the graded Betti numbers of \(P+\tilde{L}+L\) are at least as large as the ones of \(I\), [\textit{G. Caviglia} and \textit{E. Sbarra}, J. Algebra 419, 318--331 (2014; Zbl 1314.13003)]. The authors prove that the statement is true for polynomial rings of any characteristic.
