The paper deals with the following Toda system \[ \Delta u_i + \sum_{j=1}^n a_{ij} e^{u_j}= 4\pi\gamma_i\delta_0,\qquad \int_{\mathbb R^2} e^{u_i}dx<\infty,\quad \forall 1\leq i\leq n, \] where \(\gamma_i>-1,\) \(\delta_0\) is the Dirac measure at \(0,\) and the coefficients \(a_{ij}\) form the standard tri-diagonal Cartan matrix for \(SU(n+1).\) The authors derive three fundamental results in order to understand the bubbling behavior of the Toda system. The first one completely classifies the solutions and provides the quantization result \[ \sum_{j=1}^n a_{ij} \int_{\mathbb R^2} e^{u_j}dx=4\pi(2+\gamma_i+\gamma_{n+1-i})\quad \forall 1\leq i\leq n, \] generalizing this way the classification result of \textit{J. Jost} and \textit{G. Wang} for \(\gamma_i=0\) [Int. Math. Res. Not. 2002, No. 6, 277--290 (2002; Zbl 1001.35037)]. It is proved, moreover, that if \[ \gamma_i+\gamma_{i+1}+\cdots+\gamma_{j}\notin \mathbb Z\quad \forall 1\leq i\leq j\leq n, \] then any solution \(u_i\) is radially symmetric with respect to \(0.\) Finally, the authors prove that the linearized equation at any solution is non-degenerate.
