The authors study the analytic Bethe ansatz in solvable vertex models associated with a Yangian or certain of its quantum affine analogues. They propose some eigenvalue formulae for the transfer matrices and a number of conjectures for higher representation cases. A note added in the proof announces that one of the conjectures has now been proved.
