The paper deals with the problems of smoothing numerical solutions, a posteriori error estimates and correction of numerical solutions using defects, for elliptic equations. The results are based on the theory of finite elements. The paper contains following sections: 1. Approximation of numerical solutions by finite elements of high degrees. 2. A posteriori estimate. 3. Defect correction method. 4. The cell approximate method.
