For a closed orientable Riemannian surface \(M\), an \(SO(3)\)-connection \(A\) and a Higgs field \(\Phi: M\rightarrow\mathfrak{so}(3)\) are considered. The pair \((A,\Phi)\) induces a cocycle over the geodesic flow of \(M\). Cohomologically trivial pairs \((A,\Phi)\) with finite Fourier series in terms of a suitable Bäcklund transformation are classified (up to gauge transformations). If \(M\) is negatively curved a full classification of \(SO(3)\)-transparent pairs is obtained. (See also [\textit{V. Niţicǎ} and \textit{A. Török}, Ergodic Theory Dyn. Syst. 18, No. 5, 1187--1209 (1998; Zbl 0918.58057); the author, J. Mod. Dyn. 3, No. 2, 311--333 (2009 Zbl 1185.53024)].)
