The author presents a method for solving nonlinear evolution equations. The invariant subspace method is refined by taking invariant subspaces as subspaces of solutions to linear ordinary differential equations. These ordinary differential equations are constructed from the right side of the original nonlinear evolution equations. Finally, two concrete examples are given to find invariant subspaces associated with 2nd- and 3rd-order linear ordinary differential equations and their corresponding exact solutions with generalized separated variables.
