Let \(m\) be an integer that is not a cube. Let \(K = Q(\omega)\) with \({\omega}^{3} = m\) denote the corresponding pure cubic number field, and let \(E_{m}\) denote the elliptic curve \(y^{2}= x^{3} - m\). The author shows that the elements \(\alpha \in K^{\times}\) whose squares have the form \(a - \omega\), for rational numbers \(a\), form a group isomorphic to the group of rational points \((x,y)\in E_{m}(Q)\). More generally, he shows that there is a bijection between elements \(\alpha \in K^{\times}\) whose squares have the form \(a - b\omega\) for rational numbers \(a\) and \(b\), and the rational points of the group \(E'_{m}(Q)\) of \(E'_{m}\): \(y^{2}= x^{3} - mb^{3}\) the quadratic twist of \(E_{m}\). Using \(\alpha\) such that \( \alpha^{2} = r - bs^{2}\omega\) for some coprime integers \(r\) and \(s\), he constructs unramified quadratic extensions \(K(\sqrt{\alpha})/K\).
