The authors study the nonlinear integral equation \[ y(t)=h(t)+\int_0^T k(t,s)f(s,y(s)) ds, \quad t\in[0,T]. \] Under some assumptions on the kernel \(k(t,s)\) and the singular nonlinearity \(f(t,y)\) they establish the existence of at least one non-negative continuous solution of the considered problem. The result is illustrated by the integral equation \[ y(t)=\int_0^T t^\gamma \sqrt{s+t} \left([y(s)]^{-\alpha}+[y(s)]^\beta+1\right)ds, \quad t\in[0,T]. \] This equation, under the assumptions \(\alpha>0,\;0\leq \beta <1,\;\gamma \geq 0\) and \(\gamma\alpha<1\) has a solution positive for \(t>0\) and continuous on \([0,T]\) satisfying the condition \(y(0)=0.\)
